Defibrillator Station

In 2019 The Victory Hall Management Committee bought the old telephone box on the corner of Slitting Mill Road and Post Office Lane with a proposal of turning it into a Defibrillator Station. 'Rugeley First Responders' donated 50% of the cost of the Defibrillator and installation. They will also carry out necessary periodic checks to ensure its future operation. With the help of the Victory Hall Management Committee, Hall users and kind donations by locals, the remaining 50% of the Defibrillator was covered, plus the cost of the telephone box renovation. The total cost of renovation and Defibrillator was approximately £3,250.

These are the works that were been carried out:

• Telephone Box purchased by the Victory Hall for £1.
• Dig out the rear of the box and cut hedge back to allow works to continue.
• Strip out all glass and frames from sides panels and door.
• Strip out existing lighting, old telephone back plate and door closure.
• Grit blast the bare box and spray paint to original GPO red.
• Clean glass panels where possible. Some new panels were purchased to replace the plastic and broken panels which had been fitted as a temporary repair over the years.
• Fit new ‘Defibrillator’ sign to the front top panel.
• Clean and paint glass panel frames. Some new frames were required, generally where the plastic replacement panels had been installed and some, where rust had taken over.
• Clean and paint the back panel, door closure and door straps.
• Installation of the defibrillator unit.
• Installation of a new internal light.

There will be some follow on works required, these to include re grassing the area around the box, a general tidy up, and a sign to be fitted on the bus shelter indicating the location of the defibrillator.

The Defibrillator was fully operational by the end of October 2019, has been registered with local emergency services and will in future be serviced by our local ‘Rugeley First Responders’ based at the fire station.

Fortunately to date it has not been required for an emergency!
